Utah Trip!

I'm sorry that I haven't written in a LONG time.  But, as I always say, better late than never.  I need to do better.  At least a weekly post would be better than my sporadic post.  So many details are missing and will eventually be forgotten.

We got back (yesterday) from another Utah trip.  It was amazing.  My hormones were out of whack a bit before we left (I was feeling a little depressed)...so it was good to go and regulate myself a bit.  We were not able to go to Logan and visit Dad, Lisa, and Alyssa...they got Covid as we were driving up so we weren't able to see them.  We cut our trip a few days short.  Tara and Michael will be visiting for a few days next week.  It will be good to spend some time with them again.

We left last Tuesday morning and spent the first night in Mesquite.  What an adventure, ha ha.  It was pouring rain so we weren't able to swim in the pool, as anticipated.  We thought we would do cosmic bowling, but by the time we got there it was already past 9:00 and so it was closed.  We picked out our dinner at Walmart...it's a tradition that the kids enjoy.  They pick out whatever they want at Walmart for dinner (crackers, cheese, fruit, yogurt, etc.).  It's one of the highlights of the trip, ha ha.

The next day we ate out for breakfast at the hotel cafe (very cheap food....and a lot of it).  It took us forever to get to Tara's.  We didn't get there until 7:00 at night.  We stopped at the Beaver Creamery on the way up and ate ice cream cones, per tradition.

The next day (Thursday), we met up with Amanda and the girls (Kynzlee and Jazlynne).  We ate a picnic lunch at the park and then watched the movie, "Cruella".  I loved it!  It was so good!  I can't wait to watch it again.  Then we ate dinner and just hung out.

On Friday, Tara and I went to Salt Lake City to visit my Grandpa Turley. It was so good to see him...it's been a long while.  He was just diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.  It has spread to his ribs.  He has dementia and he doesn't have a very good short-term memory.  He didn't know who we were, but his long term memory is excellent.  He talked and talked for a few hours about various memories from his past.

He told about "thumbing" it (hitchhiking) to college and back home again.  He talked about getting his mission call and how he read the Joseph Smith story (The First Vision) and gained a testimony of it.  He talked about a few missionary experiences that he had throughout his lifetime.  He talked about the time that he was driving across country with Grandma Turley, and their baby, Freddie.  As they approached a bridge, Grandpa saw a little bit of smoke coming up from underneath it.  He thought it looked pretty so he pulled over to take a picture.  As he was taking the picture, the entire bridge collapsed!  They would have died had they crossed the bridge.  He told of another time when he was teaching at the University of Utah when the phone rang. His colleague answered the phone since he was in the middle of teaching.  It was Grandma Turley.  She wanted to talk to Grandpa and when grandpa's colleague told her that he was teaching, she said, "Well, tell him that his house is on fire!".  Grandpa's colleague told her to call the fire department.  Ha ha!  I guess some curtains that were next to the fireplace caught fire.

It was nice to talk to Grandpa.  I was a emotional when I first saw him.  It's been a while.  I don't know if I will ever see him again in this life.  He is a wonderful Grandpa.  I will miss him.  I am proud to belong to him and to be a Turley!

Friday evening Tara, Jon, and I met up with our cousin, Katherine (Turley) Jenkins and her husband.  We ate at a Mexican Restaurant.  The conversation was great, the food wasn't, ha ha.

On Saturday, we participated in all of the amazing FREE 4th of July festivities that goes on in Syracuse.  We met up with Craig's family as well.  We started the day off at a parade (the kids loved getting the candy).  Then there were a bunch of activities at the park.  Bingo games with awesome prizes, water games, wood chopping, stilts, food trucks, fishing for prizes, etc.  After the park we went to Tara's and the kids swam and played.  Then we had a delicious BBQ.  Afterwards, we went back to the park and the kids played for a few hours on the playground before watching the really stunning fireworks show.  It was a perfect 4th of July!  I want to go every year!

Sunday was spent at Church, watching a few "Chosen" episodes, and relaxing at home.  On Monday, we left for Mesquite.  We ate stopped at a few DI's on the way there.  We ate at the Golden Corral in St. George (another tradition).  In Mesquite, I took the kids swimming in the pool.  It was 112 degrees outside and we basically had the pool to ourselves.  It was nice!

The next day we went to Las Vegas.  We stayed at a resort with an amazing swimming pool.  It was huge, with waterfalls and 2 water slides!  The boys and I loved the water slides.  I need to get my kids signed up for swimming lessons though.  I feel like I have failed as a parent because they don't know how to swim.  Hopefully I can get them in soon!

We are now back home and back into the swing of things.  I went to a Relief Society activity last night, which was nice.  I am looking forward to going to church this week and seeing my Young Women.  I have missed them.  I love them.

Anyway, I have skipped a lot of details...I will try to do better at writing more regularly.  I suppose this will by my lifetime pursuit!

Here are some pictures!

We went bowling the second time we stayed in Mesquite!  I got the lowest score out of everyone! :)

4th of July Fireworks and Festivities!

The Boys' Bingo Prizes!

Look at all of that rain!

Mason saw this fish and said it looked like Mikey.  We were dying laughing!

I have been taking the boys fishing at Apollo Park a few times.  It's fun being there in the early morning with my boys!

The Sunday before we left for Utah we went down below to see the baby blessing of Helaman's baby boy.  I got to hold him...I LOVE babies.  I truly do.  They make me so happy!

Jon put hardwood floor in Lizzie's room!  It looks so nice!  After he builds the rooms in the garage he will change the carpet in the 2nd bedroom as well.  Jon is amazing.  There isn't anything that he can't do.

William had to get put to sleep with anesthesia in order to get his dental work done.  He had several cavities filled as well as a tooth extraction.  Poor guy!  It cost us $1,500...I hope he doesn't get any more cavities for a very long time.
