Typical Tuesday

Well, it was a typical Tuesday.

For Come Follow Me today we talked about Helaman 5:12 and the importance of creating a firm foundation on Jesus Christ.  The kids are so funny.  When I asked them about what they need to do in order to have their foundation built on Christ, they just looked at me and said, "...the same things we always say, Mommy.  Read our scriptures, say our prayers, Come Follow Me, go to church, take the sacrament, repent, etc.".  Well, I'm 38 years old and I still need to hear that message every single day or else I'll forget.  It's okay that those answers are repeated again and again.

Mason said something that made me think.  The kids had built their houses and I was pretending to be Satan and I went around blowing at their houses to see if they would fall.  The boys all built their houses out of blocks...so they had firm foundations that were able to withstand my blows.  Caitlyn, however, built her house out of paper (per my request).  When I blew on her house, the walls and the roof fell down, but the foundation actually stayed put.  Mason said, "The roof and walls fell down, but the foundation is still there."  His comment rang true to me. Even when we have a firm foundation, we may still occasionally give into temptation and fall.  We may get cracks in our walls and a window (or two) may shatter.  But we can't allow those imperfections and mistakes to discourage us.  If we turn to Christ, we can have the strength to repent and rebuild and become the kind of strong structure that will be able to withstand the blows of Satan.  I actually think that the majority of us try to build our foundation on Christ.  We really try.  But we aren't perfect...and our houses get nicked, and a wall or two may cave in.  But because of our efforts in building the foundation, we can still be strong.  We can still rely on our foundation.  I learned something tonight.  From the mouth of babes.

Typical Mason face!

Bryce hard at work!  I often go and try to take a picture of him in action, but he has a habit of stopping what he's doing to look at me and smile.  He's a handsome kid!  I knew when he was born with a natural hair style that he'd be a heart breaker one day.

You can't find a better 13-year-old girl on this planet, I'm sure of it.  This girl has been reading all of President Nelson's talks right a long with me.  She's just good like that.  When I memorized "The Living Christ", she did it right along with me.  I love this about her and our relationship.  Even at such a young age I'm able to study and discuss the gospel with her.  I imagine these little "challenges" continuing for the rest of our lives.  I love it.

Caitlyn's Corner!

I think she likes it!
