A Week of Firsts

Image
I was set apart today in my new calling.  I have really been feeling so nervous about it all week.  I feel a bit better after being set apart, but I still feel nervous and inadequate.  I will need to plead with Heavenly Father to strengthen me and make me better than I am.  I need the enabling power of the atonement of Jesus Christ.  The enabling power of grace.  I'm not anything on my own.  I'm very nervous.  If anything, this new calling will help bring me to my knees on a more regular basis. School starts (with the students) tomorrow! I spent all last week getting everything ready and finishing up training.  I'm pretty sure I'm prepared, but you just never know.  I'm looking forward to finally getting started.  I feel like It's been a really long August.  I am very blessed with my job.  I get to have my own classroom.  I get to spend my days with children.  I get to use my creativity.  One of the be...

A Surprise Calling

It was a good week!  I was able to spend a few days in my classroom.  It's starting to come together and I'm getting more and more excited to start the year in one week from tomorrow. I volunteered at Del Sur on Friday.  I spent a few hours in William's classroom and an hour in Mason's classroom.  I'm hoping to make it to Caitlyn's classroom next Friday. I was extended a church calling today that kind of shocked me.  I was asked to be the first counselor in the Stake Young Women Presidency.  This was definitely not something that I expected at all.  Last week, I was feeling a little sad that I hadn't been given a calling yet.  I prayed and felt peace.  I felt very strongly that there was a specific reason why I didn't yet have a calling and that I just needed to be patient.  I didn't have to wait too long to find out why.  When Brother Nelson extended the call I started crying.  I really feel like I don't have anything to offer...

Lizzie's Fifteen!

I started going in to work this past Monday.  The first day was nice, we got to spend time in our classrooms.  My classroom was a disaster.  Before summer vacation, we had to take everything off of our walls and move all of the furniture into the center of the room.  When I returned on Monday, the walls were painted (hooray!), but it was a mess.  I spent the majority of the time on Monday trying to make sense of it all.  On Tuesday, we had a Professional Development Day/Meeting.  It lasted the majority of the day, so I wasn't able to do much work in my classroom that day.  Wednesday and Thursday were "paint days".  We had to paint classrooms and it was exhausting work.  My poor coworker had aching hands all through the night.  I was fine on Wednesday,  but after a few hours of painting on Thursday I just couldn't do it anymore.  I made it to the end of the day, but it was a very long day.  Tomorrow (Monday) and ...

First Days of School, A Baptism, and a Broken Toe

We had a busy week! We got home from church today and the kids wanted to have a cooking competition.  They all made their own scrambled egg sandwiches and then they had a team competition.  I gave them the ingredients and they had 20 minutes to create their masterpiece.  It's Fast Sunday today so I wasn't able to taste their creations, but they plan on doing this competition every Friday as a celebration of making it through another week of school. Mason's creation: Caitlyn's Creation: Bryce and William's Creation: Yesterday, August 6th 2022, Caitlyn Dawn was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!  I'm so proud of her and her choice.  This is the first step.  She is now on the covenant path.  She now needs to use her agency to stay on the path and/or return to it after she makes mistakes.  As President Nelson said in the last General Conference, we need to "Get on the covenant path and stay there", "Discover the joy ...
